The Earth, Myself

Endless be thy flow

In unceasing undulation

Poundeth thine waves as doth beateth mine heart

      bathing thy rocky shore

      thou bringest life to all

      behold thy periwinkle

            his brother barnacle

            and sister urchin

How wondrous be this blood of earth

Me thinks that to watch you is to see

Within me

in thou I see my blood cells

            as fish disguised

thy plankton like so many proteins

in myself seeth I one monocyte

            fruit of thy womb

as a child through your garden I wander

      yet I found the shore

      surpassed I your confines

      climbed I upon the rocks

      here fixed I will stay

      unable to return

      guarding your shore

      protector I shall be

      macrophage be my name
